Former Kentucky Man Arrested After Stealing Car in Neoga

A former Kentucky man has been arrested after stealing a car in Neoga and then wrecking the vehicle.

Mattoon City Police report 36-year-old Nicholas I. Pinkerton, now homeless, but formerly of Sturgis, Kentucky, was arrested at 6:01am Saturday. Police say the arrest occurred in rural Coles County.

Pinkerton was arrested on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and fleeing from police.

The charges allege that Pinkerton stole a car in Neoga and then drove through Mattoon, where police officers attempted to stop him. A vehicle chase ensued. Pinkerton was apprehended after crashing the car in rural Coles County.

Pinkerton is being held at Coles County Safety and Detention Center.
