St. Anthony High School sophomore Nate Schmidt has been selected to attend the High School Presidential Inaugural Conference in Washington, DC in January.
Outstanding students from across the nation and around the world will be part of a five-day program designed to provide scholars with a deeper understanding of the history behind the electoral process and the traditions surrounding the presidential inauguration.
The students will have the opportunity to interact with historians, political experts and leading decision makers to discuss campaign strategy and presidential politics. Inaugural Scholars will attend a special viewing party and luncheon where they will watch on large screen televisions the grandeur of the inaugural parade, and will attend an exclusive Gala Inaugural Celebration just for them.
Schmidt is the son of Bill and Sue Schmidt of Effingham. He's a three-year member of NYLSC and also belongs to Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, Band, Chorus, Golf Team, Track Team and Spanish Club. He also has participated in St. Anthony High School's fall musicals and spring plays, is a member of St. Anthony Church, and plays piano for St. Mary's Church in Shumway.
