An adult and a child were injured in a single-vehicle crash south of Effingham Wednesday evening.

State police report a car driven by Elizabeth Stonum of Champaign ran off northbound I-57, eight miles south of Effingham just before 5:30pm. Stonum told police a semi merged into her lane and that forced her car off the roadway to the left into the median. Stonum then overcorrected and skidded across both northbound lanes to the right and into the ditch. Her car rolled over numerous times coming to rest in a cornfield.

Stonum and her 11-year-old passenger, a boy from Urbana, were both injured and were taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Stonum was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
