The Illinois Department of Employment Security building on Hoffman Drive in Effingham was evacuated this morning after a faxed in bomb threat was received.

Effingham Police Chief Jeff Fuesting said the fax message was that the person who sent the fax wanted money and there were explosives in the building if they didn't get the money.

Fuesting said police checked the building, as did staff members, and nothing out of the ordinary was found. Police secured a bomb-sniffing dog to go through the building and nothing was found. Employees were back on the job Tuesday afternoon.

Chief Fuesting said the same fax was sent to a number of businesses throughout Illinois.

In addition to IDES, CEFS has an office in the building.
