Two crashes involving injuries occurred Saturday in the area.

State police say a crash occurred at 3:28am on the Dieterich-Clay City blacktop, three miles north of Sailor Springs.

A pickup truck driven by 26-year-old Eber Misael Perez-Escalante of Clay City was headed south when the unit ran off the right side of the roadway. Perez-Escalante overcorrected and the pickup slid off the left side of the roadway and overturned multiple times. Perez-Escalante was ejected from the vehicle.

Perez-Escalante was injured and was transported to Clay County Hospital in Flora, then was airlifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

Arrest information is pending.

The other crash occurred at 12:49pm on I-57 northbound, three miles south of Neoga.

State police say the driver of the car involved, 77-year-old Ronald Kuykendall of Shelby, Michigan, told them he was tired and fell asleep. Kuykendall's car veered off the roadway into the right ditch and overturned.

Kuykendall was airlifted from the scene to Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Kuykendall was cited for improper lane usage.
