The Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education will decide in January whether to place a facilities tax on the ballot.

Superintendent Mark Doan said the Board will hold a special meeting early enough in January to meet the deadline for placing items on the April 4 election ballot.

The facilities tax is a sales tax that would raise revenue for construction or maintenance of facilities.

The Unit 40 Board also acted on several personnel items.

Christina Jones was hired as a paraprofessional and appointed Kristin Harvey a high school assistant softball coach. Resignations were accepted from April Karpus-Weddle as football cheer coach and granted her a family and medical leave act leave, as well as from Andrea Davis as a paraprofessional nurse and Joyce Green as a teacher at the end of the school year. Retirements were accepted from Mary Dust and Sue Ann Minor as teachers at the end of the 2019-20 school year. Leaves were accepted from Kim Willenborg, Angela Moeller and Theresa Wolke under the Family and Medical Leave Act, as well as for Jalana Robison, Toni Chisler and Clara Brown, and a leave extension for Janie Sapp.
