(LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS WORK OUTSIDE THE RESIDENCE IN DIETERICH WHERE A STABBING OCCURRED FRIDAY MORNING)

A man was stabbed during an incident in Dieterich Friday morning. Two people were taken into custody for questioning.

No names of those involved have been released.

The Effingham County Sheriff's Office was notified at about 10am of a possible stabbing in Dieterich and that there were several individuals involved.

The preliminary investigation police concluded that an altercation took place at a residence at 204 West Center Street along Illinois Route 33 in Dieterich, involving several individuals. A report from the Sheriff's Office indicated that the physical altercation escalated to a knife fight and one individual was stabbed.

The person stabbed is an 18-year-old white male from Dieterich. The stabbing victim was located along Main Street in Dieterich mid-morning. Effingham City-County Ambulance Service took the 18-year-old to a rural area north of Dieterich where he was transferred to an Air Evac helicopter and was flown to Carle Hospital in Urbana, where his condition was reported as stable.

The two people taken into custody were seen sitting, handcuffed, on the front porch of a house along Illinois Route 33 next to the former Mark's Market location. The Sheriff's Office indicates they have identified all of the involved parties and there is no danger to the public. Due to this being an active investigation, names of the individuals involved are being withheld at this time.

Dieterich schools were on lockdown until it was confirmed the incident was under control. Junior/Senior High School Principal Kevin Haarman said schools were on a "soft lockdown" status, where the class day continued, but no one was allowed in or out of the schools. Things were back to normal by late morning.
