Dieterich school board members Monday reviewed proposals for social media systems.

The Board heard a presentation from Apptegy regarding a system that would create a new website, mobile app and communication system for the Dieterich district. The system would be designed to streamline communications including social media, texting, telephone calls and website updating.

Board members also reviewed a proposal from SchoolMessenger that would provide a similar service. The item was tabled while additional information is sought.

The Dieterich Board learned that the current electronic control system for HVAC within the buildings is starting to fail. They reviewed proposals and tabled the matter until next month's meeting.

Also Monday, Dieterich board members purchased new high school girls basketball uniforms; reviewed the past fiscal year tax levy and began making plans for this year's levy; approved a leave of absence from elementary teacher Jodi Mammoser for some dates in September; hired Jordan Michels as high school boys JV basketball coach; and tabled a proposal for a leasing agreement with Cintas for the District's AEDs.

The Board heard estimated enrollment numbers appear to be up from last year; and learned that students scored well above state average on the 2016 PARCC test, but that high school students in Illinois will no longer be taking the PARCC test, and will be returning to the SAT. The administrators said the move reduces the amount of standardized testing and allows high school students to participate in a college entrance exam while staying in high school.

High School Principal Kevin Haarman reported that Dieterich High School has once again gained the Bronze Level recognition from US News and World Report. This is the second year in a row that Dieterich has gained the honor.
