Shelbyville Man Sentenced to Four Years, Mattoon Man Arrested

Shelby County State's Attorney Gina Vonderheide announced Gregory L. Billiter, 20, of Shelbyville was sentenced to four years in the Illinios Department of Corrections for the offense of Unlawful Failure to Register as a Sex Offender in Shelby County.

Billiter also pled guilty to the offense of Criminal Sexual Abuse in Shelby County and received a sentece of 364 days, to run concurrent with his felony case. Billiter failed to report a change of address to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office within three days after moving to a different address which was in violation of the provisions of the Child Sex Offender Registration Act.

Billiter commited an act of sexual penetration with a victim who was at least 13 years of age but under the age of 17 when the act was committed and at such time when the defendant was 17 years of age but less than five years older than the victim. Both cases were investigated by the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

Mattoon police arrested Zachary J. Dare, age 43 of Mattoon, Wednesday at 6:22 p.m. at the MPD.

Dare was charged with Aggravated Assault. The charge stems from a June 5 incident in which Dare allegedly threatened a group of people while armed with a knife and baseball bat. Dare posted bond for the offense and is scheduled to appear in Coles County Circuit Court.
