Mayor Jeff Bloemker recently signed a proclamation for VFW Buddy Poppies 2016. VFW Poppies are assembled by disabled veterans, and the proceeds of this worthy fund raising campaign are used exclusively for the benefit of disabled and needy veterans, and the widows and orphans of deceased veterans.

Said Mayor Jeff Bloemker:  “May is a special month for all Americans as we pause to remember our military personnel who offered the ultimate sacrifice.  We miss our fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters who didn’t get to come home and we think of them often.  We have a great VFW organization in Effingham, we’re proud of them, and we hope they have great success with this year’s Buddy Poppies sale.”

VFW Post 1769 sold Buddy Poppies last late week at Rural King, Wal-Mart, Niemerg’s Steakhouse, and Martin’s IGA.
