Two St. Elmo residents were injured in a crash in a rural part of Fayette County Sunday night.

State police report a SUV ran off a rural road five miles northeast of Ramsey just after 6:30pm. The vehicle overturned twice before coming to rest on its roof.

Authorities aren't yet certain which of the two occupants was driving at the time of the crash. The occupants, 52-year-old Joseph B. Sidwell and 37-year-old Erik P. Nohren, were both airlifted from the scene to HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

The crash remains under investigation by Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
