Several Crashes Involving Injuries in Area

Local authorities have investigated three crashes with injuries in the area.

Effingham city police handled a crash at Temple and Willow at 8am Monday. Police report a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Cory Wahl of Streator struck a vehicle driven by 50-year-old Jernice Rhodes of Effingham. Rhodes was injured, but refused treatment. Wahl was cited for failure to yield.

Two Teutopolis residents were involved in a collision Monday afternoon, with one of the drivers taken for treatment.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department reports a car driven by 37-year-old Christina Raupp of Teutopolis turned onto Walnut Street from Herin Street in Teutopolis and collided with a scooter operated by 74-year-old Kenneth Esker of Teutopolis.

Esker was injured in the crash and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment. Raupp was cited for failure to yield.

The crash happened at 3:47pm.

An Effingham teenager was involved in a crash northwest of Effingham at 8pm Monday.

The crash occurred on Illinois 32 at 1900th Avenue in Banner Township. Sheriff's deputies report a SUV driven by 16-year-old Madalyn Tegeler of Effingham was traveling on the highway when Tegeler lost control of the vehicle while avoiding a deer. The vehicle ran off the roadway, struck several small trees and went down an embankment. Tegeler was able to crawl out of the vehicle, but injured her leg in the process. She was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital for treatment. Tegeler was cited for improper lane usage.
