Fayette County State's Attorney's Office Warning of Scam

The Fayette County State's Attorney's office has been alerted to a scam.

The scam involves a letter from somone claiming to 'hire" the recipient as a secret shopper. Included with the letter will be a certified check. The letter and check are generally sent by certified mail.

If this happens to you, the State's Attorney's office encourages you to not cash the check or transfer the funds. This is a scam. The certified check is fraudulent, and the person who cashes the check will be liable for the funds.

If you receive such a mailing, please report it to the Illinois Attorney General's Office or your local law enforcement agency.
