A crowd of some 400 people turned out Thursday for the Open House for Beck's Hybrids' Effingham distribution center.

Company founder Sonny Beck was present along with his sons including Company President Scott Beck and a number of others from the Beck's team.

Effingham Mayor Jeff Bloemker was on hand to welcome the business to the community, and a flag raising ceremony featuring color guards from three local veterans organizations was held. The company fed those gathered. The turnout and the weather led Beck's to have off-site parking and a shuttle service to get those who attended to and from the site.

The Beck's location will see seed brought from a wide area to the distribution facility and then shipped to growers all through parts of downstate Illinois. The company held an information meeting as part of Thursday's event to bring growers up to date on advances in corn varieties and the latest on market trends.

Access to the Beck's site is expected to soon be enhanced as bids are to be let later this month for a reconstruction of Pike Avenue, west from Raney Street to the distribution center.
