Teutopolis village board members, on a split vote, agreed Wednesday to transfer money from the General Fund to the Building Fund to be used on a new Village Hall.

The Village Hall project has been discussed for years. The move to transfer $250,000 to the Building Fund leaves $692,400 in the fund, which means more money on hand to proceed should something develop.

The vote to approve the transfer was 4-2 with Trustees Kenny Esker, John Mette, Dan Zerrusen and Dave Tegeler voting in favor and Trustees Joe Schumacher and John Oseland voting against.

The site for a new building would be adjacent to the current building location along Main Street.

The Board also approved a change in the Village policy concerning driveway replacement. Under the new policy, the Village will use the same materials the driveway is made of for business locations if the Village has to tear up a driveway for water or sewer repairs or similar work. In the case of residences, the Village will still use rock to cover the repairs.

Trustees also authorized Village President Greg Hess to sign a quote from Ameren for a street light on West Main in the area of the new business park; extended to May 31 the deadline for removal of inoperable vehicles on property at 307 South Race and 701 West Elm; and tabled the review of a new cell phone contract for village employees.
