A local man has been sentenced to prison for burglary.

21-year-old Anthony Henkelman of Effingham was arrested in May for breaking into a vehicle parked at a local establishment and for breaking into a vehicle parked at a local motel. Authorities said Henkelman and an accomplice stole a handgun from one of the vehicles.

Henkelman and co-defendant Rachael Stephens were each charged with possession of a stolen firearm and felony theft as well as burglary. The other two charges were not prosecuted in exchange for Henkelman's guilty plea to burglary.

Henkelman was also fined and must pay court costs and make restitution.

Stephens is due back in court on the counts on Wednesday.

Both Henkelman and Stephens have prior felony convictions.
