A Jasper County man is headed to prison after a resolution of his criminal case on sex charges.

Jasper County State's Attorney Chad Miller said 52-year-old Charles "Chuck" Cisney, formerly of Hidalgo, has been sentenced to five years in prison on two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Miller said the counts are based on events that occurred in summer, fall and winter of 2013, the counts reportedly involving a 16-year-old boy.

Cisney had pleaded guilty after his arrest in July 2014, then announced earlier this year he wanted a different attorney and indicated he wanted to withdraw his guilty plea. Instead, on Thursday attorneys for both sides presented Judge Daniel Hartigan a joint sentencing recommendation after Cisney withdrew the motion to withdraw his guilty plea. The charges carry a maximum of three to seven years in prison, with probation being an option. In addition to the prison time, Cisney was also ordered to compensate the victim and family for restitution of their costs.

Miller said after the hearing that he hopes the sentence will deter others from committing similar crimes, and hopes that the victim and family will find some comfort by the resolution of the matter.
