Labor Day is a day for celebrating in our area.

St. Elmo will wrap up three days of events with a full day of activities today.  A pancake breakfast is already being served and will be served until 9:30am at the firehouse.  Concession stands will open at 9am along with flea markets and booths and pony rides.  The parade will step off at 10:30am.  Lineup will begin at St. Elmo High School at 9am.  The route is south on Walnut, east on Second, north on Main and east on Fourth.  The parade will end at the bank.  The day of parade entry fee is five dollars.

Children's games will begin at noon, the parade winners will be announced at 12:30pm at 5th and Main, and the Singing Strings Band will perform at First Church of God Shed at 1pm.  A watermelon contest will begin at 4th and Main at 1pm, as will Bingo at 5th and Main.  Watermelon eating and seed spitting will start at 3pm, and the Effingham County Sportsman's Club cowboy re-enactors will perform at 3:30pm on Main Street.  The St. Elmo Lion's Cakewalk will begin at 5:30pm, and the Citizen of the Year award recipient will be announced at 6:15pm, followed by the "St. Elmo's Got Talent" Talent Show at 6:30pm.  The 50/50 drawing will take place at 8pm.

Ingraham will hold its Labor Day Picnic and Tractor pull today.

The tractor pull will begin at 9am, followed an ITPA-sanctioned pull at 1pm.  There will also be truck pulls, semi-truck pulls and antique tractor pulls.  The Little Wabash River Band will entertain after the pulling.

A lunch stand is planned featuring porkburgers, brats, hot dogs, fish, nachos, ice cream and soft drinks throughout the day, and soup will be served from 11am to 6pm and sold by the gallon after 5pm.  There will be a cash raffle at 6pm, and 50/50 drawings at noon and at 6pm. There will be games including ball toss, duck pond, novelty stand, snow cones and inflatables.

A Fly-In/Drive-In Pulled Pork Lunch is set for today at Shumway "Innernational" Airport just west and north of Shumway.  Activities are planned from 11am to 3pm.  For more information, phone Jack at 217-821-2868.
