Thursday's thunderstorms cut a wide swath of damage throughout central Illinois, and for our area thus far, it appears Windsor has taken a direct hit.

We've had numerous reports from listeners telling of "the worst damage from a thunderstorm" they've ever seen in Windsor. Downed trees and large limbs are blocking roadways and have taken out power and other infrastructure.

Ameren Illinois reports that at least 50 power poles have been knocked down or destroyed "in the Mattoon area", including Windsor. However, as of this writing, Ameren tells us that not all of the damage in Windsor has been accounted for. Assessment crews will continue to roll throughout the area to identify power lines and poles that are damaged or down. Ameren estimates that the time to restore power to the area will be at least 10pm Friday night. Ameren is updating this on their outage website, located here.

For your safety, if you see a downed power line, Ameren urges you to avoid contact with it. Do not drive across downed lines or attempt to move them from your path.

We will be heading to the Windsor area in the morning to find out more. Stay tuned to Friday's Morning Show, and check back Friday afternoon for pictures and video.
