Authorities say no foul play is suspected in the death of an infant in the Altamont area.

Effingham County 911 was called just before 3pm Tuesday regarding an unresponsive 10-month-old child at a residence in rural Altamont. EMS responded and took the child, now identified as Amelia Shepard of rural Altamont, to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. The child was pronounced dead in the hospital emergency room at 3:45pm.

An investigation is continuing by the Effingham County Coroner's Office, Illinois State Police Investigations and Crime Scene Services and the Effingham County Sheriff's Department. An autopsy was performed Wednesday to help determine the cause of death. The Coroner's Office said preliminary autopsy results and preliminary investigation did not disclose any foul play.
