The Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission is recommending a three-year suspension of the license of an Effingham attorney.

John Longwell is the subject of a four-count complaint, alleging various wrongdoing in his role as an attorney including, "failure to act with reasonable diligence and promptness in representing a client", "failure to return an unearned fee", "engaging in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation" and other offenses. The full complaint from the Commission is available here.

The Commission has recommended the Illinois Supreme Court issue the three-year suspension of Longwell's license. Once the three-year suspension is over, Longwell could petition for reinstatement of his license.

Longwell also has the option of appealing the Commission's recommendation.

The Supreme Court will act on the suspension recommendation when it convenes either in September or November of this year.
