A Vandalia man has been charged with drug induced homicide in the January death of Altamont resident Jordan Kull.

Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler said 32-year-old Richard B. Marschke of Vandalia has been charged with the Class X felony homicide charge, alleging that Marschke knowingly delivered a substance containing heroin to the 31-year-old Kull and that Kull "subsequently died as a result of the injection of the heroin into his body."

Kibler said, "Our actions today are based upon toxicology reports from the Effingham County Coroner's Office, and ongoing, diligent work by agents of Illinois State Police District 12 and State Police Zone 7 Investigations." Others assisting in the matter included the Altamont Police Department, Effingham Police Department, Effingham County Sheriff's Department and the Vandalia Police Department.

Kibler said the filing of additional charges against Marschke remains a possibility.

At Kibler's request, Judge Kimberly Koester set Marschke's bond Wednesday morning at $1,000,000. It's anticipated that Marschke will make his initial court appearance on Thursday at 1pm.

As currently filed, the Class X felony charge of drug induced homicide against Marschke is punishable by not less than six years but not more than 30 years in prison.
