St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham has renovated office space in the Prairie Heart Institute at St. Anthony’s into additional exam rooms and nursing support space.  This renovation increases space for the Prairie Heart Institute, and enhances comfort and privacy for patients.

The expansion was designed to accommodate Prairie Heart Institute at St. Anthony’s two full-time cardiologists, Dr. Amir Cheema and Dr. John Scally, along with nearly 20 visiting Prairie cardiologists as they continue providing specialized care to area residents. The new space also allows for the future expansion of additional cardiology services and advanced specialties to this region.

In addition, St. Anthony’s Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation moved from their location in the hospital’s Physical Rehabilitation department to its new area adjacent to the Prairie Heart Institute at St. Anthony’s.

Denise Hahn, Physical Rehabilitation manager, explained, “Relocating Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab to this area next to Prairie Heart at St. Anthony’s provides a larger space for additional exercise equipment for patients, limiting waiting time and enhancing their comfort,” she said.  “We are also increasing our patients’ safety with the close proximity to Prairie Heart, allowing shared staff to monitor patients, as well as improving communication between patients and the cardiologists that oversee their rehabilitation.”

People coming to St. Anthony’s for their cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation should enter through the hospital’s Prairie Heart Institute entrance, and proceed down the hallway, turning left at the first open hallway.  The Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab department is the first door on the right before the double set of doors.
