{"id":50374,"date":"2026-10-28T15:00:33","date_gmt":"2026-10-28T20:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=50374"},"modified":"2026-10-28T15:08:24","modified_gmt":"2026-10-28T20:08:24","slug":"route-66-at-100-an-american-story","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/calendar\/50374-route-66-at-100-an-american-story\/","title":{"rendered":"Route 66 at 100 &#8211; An American Story"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"pdfprnt-buttons pdfprnt-buttons-tribe_events pdfprnt-top-right\"><a href=\"javascript: window.print()\" class=\"pdfprnt-button pdfprnt-button-print\" target=\"_self\" ><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/wp-content\/plugins\/pdf-print\/images\/print.png\" alt=\"image_print\" title=\"Print Content\" \/><span class=\"pdfprnt-button-title pdfprnt-button-print-title\">Print<\/span><\/a><\/div><p>The Illinois State Museum (ISM) will be featured in this month\u2019s virtual Centennial Speaker Series session, \u201cRoute 66 at 100 \u2013 An American Story,\u201d at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10.\u00a0 The public is invited to join this free session celebrating the rich history and enduring legacy of the nation\u2019s most iconic highway, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.speakers.researchroute66.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">registration is available online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The session will introduce Research Route 66, a collaboration of libraries, museums and archives dedicated to researching and preserving historical records and making Route 66 stories and oral histories accessible for future generations.\u00a0 Participants will discover the stories, documents and artifacts these institutions are collecting and learn how they can contribute to, access and appreciate these valuable collections.<\/p>\n<p>Amanda Bryden, ISM registrar of history, will discuss the museum\u2019s online database of 100 oral histories about the Mother Road and its \u201cMiles of Memories: Stories of Route 66\u201d exhibition, which is currently on display at the museum.\u00a0 The database on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.illinoisstatemuseum.org\/welcome-ism-springfield\/illinois-route-66.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ISM website<\/a> features videotaped interviews and searchable written transcripts.<\/p>\n<p>The speaker series brings together notable authors, historians and preservation advocates to share research and stories about Route 66.\u00a0 Through presentations and discussions, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the highway\u2019s cultural and historical significance as it approaches its 100th anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>The Centennial Speaker Series is organized and hosted by Research Route 66, a collaboration led by the National Park Service Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program and the Route 66 Road Ahead Partnership, along with archives, libraries and museums located along the route, including the Illinois State Museum.
