In recognition of February being National Canned Food Month, HSHS Home Care is teaming up with Dan Hecht Chevrolet Toyota, Roy Schmidt Honda, Northside Ford-Lincoln, Goeckner Bros. Inc. – Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, and Russ Braunecker Cadillac Buick GMC Inc. in Effingham to \u201cCram the Car\u201d with nonperishable food items, hygiene products, and monetary donations for Catholic Charities\u2019 food pantry.<\/p>\n

Donations for the annual event will be accepted the entire month of February.\u00a0 On March 1, HSHS Home Care staff will cram their cars with donated items before delivering them to Catholic Charities. The regional Catholic Charities\u2019 office serves Clark, Crawford, Cumberland, Effingham, Fayette, Jasper and Shelby counties.<\/p>\n

\u201cCram the Car inspires me every year when I see how our neighbors, friends and colleagues come together to care for the community,\u201d said Valerie Engelbart, Volunteer\/Bereavement Services Supervisor for HSHS Home Care.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s a privilege to deliver their generous donations. Let\u2019s see how many cars we can fill!\u201d<\/p>\n

Suggested items for donations include the following:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Boxed meals (Hamburger Helper, Rice-a-Roni)
\n\u2022 Pancake mix and syrup
\n\u2022 Jelly
\n\u2022 Pasta sauce
\n\u2022 Cereal
\n\u2022 Granola
\n\u2022 Sugar-free canned fruit
\n\u2022 Low-salt canned vegetables
\n\u2022 Large boxes of oatmeal
\n\u2022 Soap
\n\u2022 Shampoo
\n\u2022 Feminine products
\n\u2022 Razors<\/p>\n

Donors are urged to check expiration dates.<\/p>\n
