{"id":12369,"date":"2025-06-16T10:31:54","date_gmt":"2025-06-16T15:31:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=12369"},"modified":"2025-06-16T10:41:33","modified_gmt":"2025-06-16T15:41:33","slug":"great-race-2025-stop-in-effingham","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/calendar\/12369-great-race-2025-stop-in-effingham\/","title":{"rendered":"Great Race 2025 Stop in Effingham"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"pdfprnt-buttons pdfprnt-buttons-tribe_events pdfprnt-top-right\"><a href=\"javascript: window.print()\" class=\"pdfprnt-button pdfprnt-button-print\" target=\"_self\" ><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/wp-content\/plugins\/pdf-print\/images\/print.png\" alt=\"image_print\" title=\"Print Content\" \/><span class=\"pdfprnt-button-title pdfprnt-button-print-title\">Print<\/span><\/a><\/div><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12370 additional-class\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Great-Race-Map-2025-850.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"632\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Great-Race-Map-2025-850.jpg 632w, https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Great-Race-Map-2025-850-223x300.jpg 223w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 632px) 100vw, 632px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Hemmings Great Race presented by Coker Tire is a nine-day classic car rally that spans more than 2,300 miles and features 120 of the world\u2019s finest antique automobiles.\u00a0 The event features 17 city stops, including a hosted lunch stop at Effingham Performance Center in Effingham, Illinois on Tuesday, June 24, starting at 11am.\u00a0 The annual event features a different route each year, offering a rare opportunity for residents of Effingham and surrounding communities to see the spectacular cars and meet the drivers from all over the world.<\/p>\n<p>Each stop on the Great Race is free to the public and spectators will be able to visit with the participants and to look at the cars for several hours.\u00a0 It is common for racers to allow kids to climb in the cars for a first-hand look. \u201cWhen the Great Race pulls into a city it becomes an instant festival,\u201d says Jeff Stumb, Great Race Director.\u00a0 He continued, \u201cLast year, we had several overnight stops with more than 10,000 spectators, on our way to having 250,000 people see the Great Race during the event.\u00a0 There are more than 500 people just in our entourage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Teams and cars from Japan, England, Australia, Canada, and every corner of the United States participate in the annual event, which is often considered a \u201cbucket list\u201d item for car enthusiasts.\u00a0 Cars, trucks and motorcycles built in 1974 and earlier are eligible to compete, and the scoring system features an age factor to keep the earlier cars competitive.\u00a0 In the 2024 Great Race, a 1916 Hudson Hillclimber won the event from Owensboro, Kentucky to Gardiner, Maine.\u00a0 A 1913 Chevrolet, a 1916 Hudson and a 1918 American LaFrance are the oldest cars scheduled to be in the 2025 Great Race.<\/p>\n<p>The Great Race was started in 1983 by Tom McRae and it\u2019s now the world\u2019s premier old car rally.\u00a0 This traveling time\/speed\/distance rally isn\u2019t just a casual back road cruise, as it has a strict set of rules to keep competition tight.\u00a0 The vehicles, each with a driver and navigator, are given precise instructions each day that detail every move down to the second.\u00a0 They are scored at secret checkpoints along the route and are penalized for arriving at the checkpoints early or late.
