Effingham High School broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the bottom of the fifth to pull out a 3-2 victory over Effingham St. Anthony in the annual City Baseball Series Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The Hearts took a 1-0 lead in the second after a wild pitch scored the run. Jude Traub reached base on a walk. Max Flack followed with a single and Brody Boehm sacrificed Traub over to third. Hen then came home on a wild pitch<\/p>\n

St. Anthony came back in the third to tie the score. Brady Hatton was hit by a pitch and took second on a passed ball. With one out, Aiden Lauritzen hit a sacrifice fly to score Hatton.<\/p>\n

The Hearts moved ahead in the bottom of the third. Wyatt Hayes got things started with a single then stole second. With one out, Carter Braddy singled. Colton Webb then hit a sacrifice fly that scored Hayes.<\/p>\n

Here came the Bulldogs in the fifth to tie the score at 2-2. Hatton was again hit by a pitch, this time with two outs. Brock Fearday drew a walk and Lauritzen hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Hatton.<\/p>\n

The Hearts came right back in the bottom of the fifth as Braddy led off with a single, Webb followed with a single and Traub got the third single in a row to score Braddy.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony went up and down in order in the sixth as did Effingham.<\/p>\n

Then in the seventh, the Bulldogs put a runner on base when Vincent Vogel hit a single. But the Hearts produced a double play to end the threat and Braddy struck out the final batter.<\/p>\n

Braddy earned the win for the Hearts. He surrendered four its and two runs over seven innings, striking out three and walking one.<\/p>\n

Braddy and Hayes each collected two hits for the Hearts.<\/p>\n

Lauritzen led the way for the Bulldogs with a single and two RBI.<\/p>\n

The two teams square off today at 7 p.m. at Evergreen Hollow Park for the second of the three-game City Series.<\/p>\n

Shelbyville came calling and edged Windsor\/Stewardson-Strasburg, 3-2 in Wednesday action.<\/p>\n

The Rams moved into a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on the other two runs in the fourth.<\/p>\n

The Hatchets scored single runs in the fifth and seventh.<\/p>\n

Windsor\/Stew-Stras outhit Shelbyville by a 5-3 count. Branson Tingley had a double and an RBI and Jackson Gurgel two singles.<\/p>\n

At Strasburg<\/strong><\/p>\n

Neoga held the reins of this game through six innings before Paris broke loose with seven runs to edge the Indians, 7-6 Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Neoga led 4-0 in the second then tacked on single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Indians had five hits led by Colin Blazich with two singles and two RBI. Ethan O’Dell added a single and an RBI and Garrett Ballinger had an RBI.<\/p>\n

Paris was led by S. Dunn with a single and double, D. Kirby with a double and M. Hutchinson and B. Quinn with two singles and an RBI each.<\/p>\n
