SIGEL — Altamont and St. Elmo\/Brownstown were winners in the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Monday evening.<\/p>\n

Altamont claimed a 55-37 victory over North Clay (Louisville) in consolation bracket action.<\/p>\n

In the other consolation bracket contest, St. Elmo\/Brownstown edged Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City, 43-39. CHBC held a 13-6 opening quarter lead and led 23-17 at halftime.<\/p>\n

CHBC still led 33-25 going into the final quarter when SEB came back with an 18-6 run to pull out the victory.<\/p>\n

Schaub led SEB with 13 points while S. Wilhour added 12 and Schnarre 11.<\/p>\n

CHBC was led by Kole Schaefer with 11 and Drake Thull with nine.<\/p>\n

Altamont and St.Elmo\/Brownstown advance to the consolation championship Thursday at 5:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

Tonight’s games feature Sacred Heart against South Central at 6 followed by Stewardson-Strasburg taking on Sigel St. Michael at 7:15 in winner bracket play. The winners will advance to the championship game Thursday at 8 p.m. while the losers will play for third place at 6:45 p.m.<\/p>\n

At Flora<\/strong><\/p>\n

Effingham St. Anthony was a winner over Flora in both seventh- and eighth-grade action Monday evening.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony won the seventh-grade contest, 45-20. Flora held an 8-2 opening quarter lead and led 12-9 at halftime.<\/p>\n

But the Bullpups came back with a 19-6 third quarter run and finished with a 17-2 fourth quarter.<\/p>\n

R. Schumacher and P. Phillips scored 15 points each for the Bullpups.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade play, St. Anthony claimed a 47-40 victory. The Bullpups edged out to a 15-13 opening quarter lead and led 22-21 at halftime. Flora had a 11-7 third quarter to pull ahead 32-29 but the Bullpups’ B. Verdeyen went on a 16 point run and they pulled out the victory.<\/p>\n

Verdeyen hit 11 field goals, one from three-point range, and was seven of nine at the line for 30 points.<\/p>\n

At Marshall<\/strong><\/p>\n

Effingham and Marshall split victories in Tuesday evening action.<\/p>\n

Effingham was a winner in the seventh-grade contest, 50-41.<\/p>\n

The Mustangs held a 15-9 opening quarter lead and led 26-15 at halftime. Marshall made a comeback in the second half with a 26-24 second half but it wasn’t enough.<\/p>\n

Deek Thompson scored 19 and Justus Bridges 13 for Effingham.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade action, Marshall edged the Mustangs, 48-46.<\/p>\n

Effingham held a 22-21 halftime lead and led 34-33 going into the final quarter. But Marshall came back with a 16-12 run to pull out the victory.<\/p>\n

Joel Flack led Effingham wth 17 points while Dagg Thompson added 12.<\/p>\n

T-town was a 33-20 winner in the seventh-grade contest, taking a 19-7 opening half lead and finishing with a 12-8 final quarter.<\/p>\n

Mason Giles led the way in scoring with nine points.<\/p>\n

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town took a 16-8 halftime lead and had a 23-12 second half for a 39-20 victory.<\/p>\n

S. Probst scored 15 for the Shoes while B. Niemerg added eight.<\/p>\n

At Mattoon<\/strong><\/p>\n

At Bridgeport<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jasper County captured the eighth-grade game but fell in seventh-grade action Monday evening to Red Hill (Bridgeport).<\/p>\n

In the seventh-grade contest, Red Hill edged Jasper County, 27-26.<\/p>\n

The score was tied at 11-11 at halftime. Jasper County moved ahead 22-18 in the third quarter.<\/p>\n

Red Hill came back with a 9-4 run to claim the win.<\/p>\n

Jasper County was led by Jacob Guzman with six points. Maverik Horner was top rebounder, Guzman top defender and Alex Keller and Grant Frichtl top passers.<\/p>\n

In eighth-grade play, Jasper County was a 53-38 winner. Jasper County ran out to a 30-16 first half lead.<\/p>\n

Cambell Ulm and Brendan Emmerich scored 15 each for the winners while Chase Kistner added 14.<\/p>\n

Hank Huber was the top rebounder. Emmerich and Kistner were the top defenders and Kistner was the top passer.<\/p>\n

Jasper Coumty is 3-8 in seventh-grade and 6-5 in eighth-grade.<\/p>\n

At Bridgeport<\/strong><\/p>\n
