EDWARDSVILLE — Teutopolis High School won\u00a0 the Tiger High School Baseball Classic at Edwardsville during the weekend.<\/p>\n

In a Friday contest, T-town fell to Highland by a 6-3 count. Highland took a 4-2 opening inning lead. The Wooden Shoes pulled within a run in the fifth but Highland scored two more in the seventh.<\/p>\n

T-town out-hit Highland by a 7-4 count. Michael Niebrugge had two singles and an RBI while Dawson Hoene had two singles. Jason Kreke added a single and an RBI.<\/p>\n

In game two, Edwardsville downed Chatham Glenwood, 11-3.<\/p>\n

In Saturday action, Teutopolis edged Chatham Glenwood, 2-1.<\/p>\n

The Shoes took a 1-0 opening inning lead and tacked on another run in the third. Glenwood scored in the fifth.<\/p>\n

T-town had six hits led by Davin Worman with two singles, a double and an RBI.<\/p>\n

Gavin Addis went the distance on the mound, giving up one run on six hits, two walks and striking out two.<\/p>\n

Game four went to Edwardsville over Highland, 7-5.<\/p>\n

Teutopolis then edged Edwardsville, 5-4.<\/p>\n

The Wooden Shoes moved into a 3-1 opening inning lead. Edwardsville pulled within 3-2 in the second. T-town tallied a run in the top of the fifth but Edwardsville came back with two in the bottom of the frame to knot the score at 4-4. T-town then scored a final run in the sixth for the win.<\/p>\n

The Shoes had five hits led by M. Niebrugge with a single, double, home run and four RBI.<\/p>\n

Austin Borries went five innings for the pitching victory. He gave up four runs on seven hits, three walks and struck out six.<\/p>\n

In the final contest of the day, Glenwood edged Highland, 6-5.<\/p>\n

The Wooden Shoes improved to 22-4 for the spring.<\/p>\n

Effingham and Taylorville split Apollo Conference victories Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Hearts won the opener, 6-2. Carter Braddy drove in four runs on two singles and a home run. He singled in the fourth inning, scoring two runs and hit a home run to right field in the sixth, also scoring two.<\/p>\n

Max Flack grounded into a fielder’s choice, which helped the Hearts tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first.<\/p>\n

Taylorville took the lead in the top of the third as Maxx Grieme hit a solo home run to left and Taylorville led 2-1.<\/p>\n

But the Hearts came back in the fourth to tally three and finished with two in the sixth.<\/p>\n

EHS had 10 hits led by Braddy’s two singles, home run and four RBI, Westin Hayes two singles and a double while Brody Boehm added a double.<\/p>\n

In the second contest, Taylorville held off a final inning challenge by the Hearts to win 2-1.<\/p>\n

Taylorville got on the board in the top of the third as Colton Gatton homered to left field and Jacob McWard singled to centerfield, each scoring a run.<\/p>\n

Colton Webb led the Hearts with two singles in three at-bats. Andrew Wagoner stole two bases.<\/p>\n

Next up for the Hearts is the City Series Wednesday against Effingham St. Anthony.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs took a 2-0 opening inning lead then pushed that to 4-2 in the third. The Bulldogs tallied a run in the sixth and finished with eight in the seventh.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony played long ball with four home runs in the contest. Aidan Lauritzen hit two singles, a home run and finished with three RBI. Brock Fearday had a single, home run and three RBI while Will Fearday and Henry Brent knocked out a solo homer.<\/p>\n

Samuel Link and Alex Mayer finished with a single and an RBI each.<\/p>\n

Newton had eight hits led by Hayden Mulvey with a single, double and an RBI, Drake Wolf with a double and two RBI, Quincy Fulton with two singles and Kohlten Barthelme and Reed Tharp with a single and an RBI each.<\/p>\n

Wolf went six innings for the pitchimg victory. He allowed two runs on 10 hits, three walks while striking out three.<\/p>\n

Cumberland broke a 3-3 second inning tie with three runs in the third and tallied one more in the fourth for a 7-4 victory Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Pirates finished with six hits led by Grady Jones with a double, home run and three RBI and Wyatt Watkins with a double and two RBI. Gavin Keyser and Maddox Miller had an RBI each.<\/p>\n

Grady Jones went 5.2 innings on the mound for the win. He gave up four runs on nine hits, two walks and struck out seven.<\/p>\n

Vandalia came calling and captured a doubleheader over Dieterich Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Vandals won 10-6 in the opener. Vandalia stepped out to a 3-0 opening inning lead. Dieterich made a comeback bid with two in the sixth and four in the seventh only to fall short.<\/p>\n

Dieterich had eight hits led by Jackson Icenogle and Carson Baxter with two singles and an RBI each and Mason Lidy with two singles and two RBI. Bryce Bohnhoff had two RBI.<\/p>\n

In the second contest, Dieterich moved into a 1-0 opening inning lead but Vandalia came back with two in the second and three in the third. The Maroons attempted a comeback bid in the fifth with two runs but fell short.<\/p>\n

Justin Boergen led the Maroons with three singles and an RBI while Dom Ashley added two singles and an RBI.<\/p>\n
