{"id":9263,"date":"2025-05-08T10:59:30","date_gmt":"2025-05-08T15:59:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/?p=9263"},"modified":"2025-05-08T10:59:30","modified_gmt":"2025-05-08T15:59:30","slug":"siu-eiu-commencement-this-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/local-news\/9263-siu-eiu-commencement-this-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"SIU, EIU Commencement This Weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"pdfprnt-buttons pdfprnt-buttons-post pdfprnt-top-right\"><a href=\"javascript: window.print()\" class=\"pdfprnt-button pdfprnt-button-print\" target=\"_self\" ><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/wp-content\/plugins\/pdf-print\/images\/print.png\" alt=\"image_print\" title=\"Print Content\" \/><span class=\"pdfprnt-button-title pdfprnt-button-print-title\">Print<\/span><\/a><\/div><p>SIU-Carbondale and Eastern Illinois University both will have commencement exercises this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Eastern Illinois University\u2019s campus will be humming with excitement Saturday as family and friends of the newest class of Panther alumni plan to pack Groniger Arena in the Lantz Complex to celebrate the academic achievements of EIU\u2019s most recent graduating class.<\/p>\n<p>More than 1,400 EIU students are eligible to participate in Spring 2025 Commencement, with the University\u2019s various colleges represented in one of three individual ceremonies taking place in Lantz Arena on Eastern Illinois University\u2019s campus, 600 Lincoln Avenue in Charleston. Undergraduates from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Education will march in the 10 a.m. morning ceremony; undergraduates from the Lumpkin College of Business and Technology and the College of Health and Human Services will march in the 5 p.m. evening ceremony; and students from The Graduate School representing all four Colleges will celebrate earning their master\u2019s degrees together in the afternoon\u2019s 1:30 p.m. ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>The Eastern Illinois University Police Department will assist with coordinating traffic outside Lantz Arena throughout the day. Eastern Illinois University officials encourage community residents to be aware of the increased traffic around the University, and to consider alternative routes when possible.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3023 additional-class\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/siuc-logo-150.jpg\" alt=\"Southern Illinois University at Carbondale\" width=\"150\" height=\"18\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The academic achievements of nearly 2,000 Southern Illinois University Carbondale students will be celebrated during Spring 2025 commencement exercises May 9-10.<\/p>\n<p>Festivities start with the SIU Simmons Law School commencement on Friday, May 9, at Shryock Auditorium. On Saturday, May 10, Banterra Center will hold two commencement ceremonies.<\/p>\n<p>As of mid-April, there are 1,971 candidates for degrees and certificates, including 1,299 candidates for bachelor&#8217;s degrees, 419 candidates for master&#8217;s degrees, 100 candidates for doctoral degrees, 71 law degree candidates, 81 candidates for associate degrees and three candidates&#8211;two of whom are also completing degrees&#8211;for undergraduate certificates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SIU-Carbondale and Eastern Illinois University both will have commencement exercises this weekend.
