Effingham High School moved to 6-0 on the season with a 45-31 victory over Taylorville in girls basketball action Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

The Hearts edged out to a 9-4 opening quarter lead as Alyssa Martin scored two baskets.<\/p>\n

The Hearts had a 12-8 second quarter to lead 21-12 at halftime. Saige Althoff nailed two free throws, a three-pointer and a two-pointer for seven in the quarter. Bria Beals added a three-pointer and Averie Wolf had two free throws.<\/p>\n

The two teams played to an 11-11 third quarter before the Hearts finished strong with a 13-8 final period.<\/p>\n

Three players hit double figures for EHS. Althoff lead with 11 on three field goals, one a three-pointer, and four of four at the line. Martin and Donaldson added 10 each.<\/p>\n

In the junior varsity contest, Taylorville edged the Hearts, 59-57 in overtime.<\/p>\n

EHS had four players finish in double figures. Melia Wendling led the way with 15 while Maci Hayes added 12 and Drew Weis and McKenzie Love had 10 each.<\/p>\n

At Mount Vernon<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mount Vernon came back with a big scoring third quarter and went on to edge Teutopolis, 69-64 Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

The Wooden Shoes held a 15-14 opening quarter lead as Chloe Probst connected on three baskets and a free throw for nine. In the second quarter it was Allie Ruholl who took over the scoring duties with two regular baskets and two three-pointers for 10 as the Shoes held a 35-29 halftime lead.<\/p>\n

But, the Rams started a comeback with a 23-16 third quarter to pull ahead 52-51. Melaina Zedalis led the way for the Tornadoes with 10 points while Kamaree Pollard added six.<\/p>\n

In the final period, Zedalis continued on with 10 more points and the Rams had a 17-13 edge for the victory.<\/p>\n

T-town had four players in double digits. C. Probst led thew way with 21 on seven field goals, three of those trifectas and four of six at the line. A. Ruholl added 17, Kelsey Niemerg 12 and A. Probst 10.<\/p>\n

C. Probst led in rebounds with six and had a steal. K Niemerg and Allie Ruholl added a steal each. A. Ruholl and M. Ruholl had an assist each.<\/p>\n

Pollard led the way for the Rams with 29 points while Zedalis added 25 and Autumn Rudd 10.<\/p>\n

Oblong hosted Dieterich and was a 53-50 winner in Tuesday evening play.<\/p>\n

Dieterich stepped out to a 20-16 opening quarter lead as five players scored. But Oblong came back with a 13-9 second quarter run to tie the sore at 29-29 at halftime.<\/p>\n

Dieterich had a 13-10 third period to pull ahead 42-39. But, here came Oblong. In the final quarter, Oblong had a 14-8 run on two baskets by Destinee Ramsey and five players scored from the free throw line.<\/p>\n

Genna Kidwell led the winners with 22 points while Alyssa Tipton added 12 and Maggie Bailey 10.<\/p>\n

Dieterich was led by Kady Tegeler and Callie Faller with 12 points each. Tegeler hit six field goals while Faller hit five and was two of two at the line.<\/p>\n

In the junior varsity contest, Dieterich was a 53-26 winner. Ava Ohnesorge scored 19 for the winners while Ava Niemerg added 10.<\/p>\n

Pana edged Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City by a 45-43 count Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

The Bobcats held a 12-9 opening quarter lead but Pana came back with an 18-5 second quarter run to lead 27-17 at halftime.<\/p>\n

CHBC outscored the Panthers 26-18 in the second half but still fell short.<\/p>\n

Macee Rodman was the lone CHBC player in double figures with 26 on 10 field goals, two from three point range, and four free throws.<\/p>\n

Averie Vaughn pulled down 11 rebounds and led in assists with three while Rodman had six steals.<\/p>\n
