Effingham and North Clay played to a 1-1 opening inning tie in Thursday’s high school baseball contest.<\/p>\n

But, that didn’t last long as the Hearts found their groove and started to roll, ending with a 12-2 victory in six innings in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3.<\/p>\n

The Cardinals opened up a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Jack Compton drew a walk. With one out, Ian Jones singled. Carder Walden then cleared the two runners off base with a double. The Hearts then got tough, getting the next two outs to end the threat.<\/p>\n

EHS came right back to knot the score in the bottom of the frame. With one out, Carter Braddy drew a walk. Colten Webb singled. Jude Traub followed with a single that scored Braddy. A fielder’s choice by Max Flack brought the second run home.<\/p>\n

EHS then moved into a 4-2 lead in the second. Two errors and a walk scored both runs. With two outs, an error allowed Andrew Wagoner on base. Braddy drew a walk. Then a North Clay error on a ball hit by Webb pushed the score to 4-2.<\/p>\n

EHS again tallied two in the third to take the score to 6-2. Flack hit a single and took second on a wild pitch. Brody Boehm singled home Flack. He stole second. A ground out by Wyatt Hayes pushed Boehm across the plate.<\/p>\n

The lead went to 7-2 in the fourth. Flack led off with a home run.<\/p>\n

In the fifth, the Hearts tallied four more runs to lead 11-2. Flack led off with a home run. Boehm followed with a single and stole second. Brayden Tucker doubled and Hayes hit a ground that scored Boehm. wagoner followed with a single, scoring Tucker and a single by Braddy scored Wagoner.<\/p>\n

EHS then ended the contest with a run in the sixth as Boehm drew a walk and Tucker singled. With one out, Wagoner singled home Boehm and the game ended via the 10-run rule.<\/p>\n

The Hearts’ Peter Rosen was the winning pitcher. He went 2 2\/3 innings, giving up two runs on three hits, two walks and striking out three.<\/p>\n

Rylan Pals came in to go the final 3 1\/3 innings, giving up five hits and striking out two.<\/p>\n

North Clay was led by Walden with a double and two RBI and Schnepper with three singles and an RBI.<\/p>\n

EHS will travel to Mattoon Saturday.<\/p>\n

At Effingham<\/strong><\/p>\n

At Teutopolis<\/strong><\/p>\n

Teutopolis High School took charge early with a nine-run first and went on for a 17-2 victory over Dieterich Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Wooden Shoes also had 17 hits and were aided by 10 Movin’ Maroon errors.<\/p>\n

Jason Kreke hit two home runs and drove in three for the winners. Aidan Niemerg had two doubles and three RBI while Davin\u00a0 Worman added a single, double and two RBI, Michael Niebrugge three singles and an RBI, Austin Borries a double and two RBI and Henry Thompson two singles and two RBI. Bryce Niebrugge and River Vahling added a single and an RBI each.<\/p>\n

Dieterich’s Jackson Icenogle had a solo homer, Gavin Meinhart two singles and Justin Boerngen a single and an RBI.<\/p>\n

Niemerg picked up the victory on the mound and is 2-0-1 on the season. He went 1.2 innings, allowing no runs on two hits, no walks while striking out four.<\/p>\n

Teutopolis improved to 14-1 on the season while Dieterich dropped to 2-11.<\/p>\n

The Wooden Shoes are back in action Saturday at Tolono Unity vs. Sacred Heart Griffin at 12:45 p.m. and Tolono Unity at 2:45.<\/p>\n

Dieterich plays host to Odin Monday.<\/p>\n

Cumberland scored a single run in the first and went on for a 10-3 victory over Neoga Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Pirates had eight hits and were aided by six Neoga errors. Cumberland led 4-3 in the top of the sixth then brought home six runs in the bottom of the frame.<\/p>\n

Isaac Venatta had a big game offensively with three singles, a double and driving in four runs. Hudson McElravy added a double and an RBI while Grady Jones finished with a single and an RBI and Reed Miller with two RBI.<\/p>\n

Neoga was led by Garrett Ballinger with two singles and an RBI, Evan Fearday with a double and Grady Haarman with a single and an RBI.<\/p>\n

McElravy was the winner on the mound. He went six inings, allowing three runs, striking out 10 and walking six.<\/p>\n

Neoga dropped to 11-4 on the season and is back in action today at Casey-Westfield.<\/p>\n

The Eagles banged out 11 hits and were aided by five Golden Aces errors.<\/p>\n

Newton struck early, scoring two in the first, then added on four in the third and two more in the fifth.<\/p>\n

Quincy Fulton led the way in the hitting department with a single, home run and two RBI. David Baltzell added three singles and an RBI, David Ferguson two singles and an RBI, Reed Tharp two singles and Carson Barthelme with a single and two RBI. Hayden Mulvey added an RBI.<\/p>\n

Drake Wolf went the distance pitching, giving up six hits, two walks and striking out one.<\/p>\n

At Newton<\/strong><\/p>\n

Delavan broke a 1-1 opening inning tie with a run in the second and went on for a 5-1 victory over Altamont Thursday in a game played at Greenville University.<\/p>\n

Delavan scored single runs in the second and fourth and two in the seventh behind seven hits and three Altamont errors.<\/p>\n

The Indians had three hits, all singles by Cooper McManaway, Zaine Miller and Kade Milleville. McManaway had an RBI.<\/p>\n

The Trojans took a 2-0 opening inning lead then tacked on single runs in the second and third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth.<\/p>\n

Luke Bonnstetter had a single, double and an RBI while Owen Bennett had a double and two RBI and Quinn Taylor a single and an RBI.<\/p>\n

The Trojans have now won three of their last four games and improved to 4-7.<\/p>\n

CHBC is back in action Saturday against Red Hill (Bridgeport).<\/p>\n
