Baseball Wins"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"pdfprnt-buttons pdfprnt-buttons-post pdfprnt-top-right\"><a href=\"javascript: window.print()\" class=\"pdfprnt-button pdfprnt-button-print\" target=\"_self\" ><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/wp-content\/plugins\/pdf-print\/images\/print.png\" alt=\"image_print\" title=\"Print Content\" \/><span class=\"pdfprnt-button-title pdfprnt-button-print-title\">Print<\/span><\/a><\/div><p>TEUTOPOLIS &#8212; Effingham High School held a 3-2 lead going into the sixth inning and that&#8217;s when Teutopolis came to life Monday in baseball action.<\/p>\n<p>The Wooden Shoes batted around and scored seven runs to move ahead and take a 9-5 victory.<\/p>\n<p>The Hearts edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead as Andrew Wagoner led off with a single. With one out, Colton Webb homered to right field and the Hearts took the lead.<\/p>\n<p>T-town came back with a run in the second as Carter Hoene and Henry Thompson drew back-to-back walks. With one out,\u00a0 Cooper Tegeler was walked. A second out came on a strikeout, but the fourth walk of the contest scored a run for the Shoes as Davin Worman picked up the RBI.<\/p>\n<p>The Wooden Shoes tied the score in the third inning. Austin Borries led off with a double. Jason Kreke followed with a double down the right field line and the Wooden Shoes tied the contest as Borries scored.<\/p>\n<p>The Hearts took the lead in the top of the fourth. Jude Traub and Max Flack had back-to-back singles. With one out, Wade Bushur was hit by a pitch and the bases were loaded. The run scored on an error on a ball hit by Wyatt Hayes and the Hearts were up 3-2.<\/p>\n<p>Teutopolis then put the game on ice with a seven-run sixth inning. Walks again proved to be the Hearts&#8217; doom as Worman, Kreke, Hoene and Gavin Addis drew walks. Addis started the runs by drawing a walk and scoring on an error. Cooper Tegeler hit a double and Aiden Niemerg followed with a single. Worman drew a walk and was sacrificed over on a ball hit by Mick Niebrugge that gave him an RBI. Borries was hit by a pitch and Kreke, Hoene and Henry Thompson followed with walks and earned an RBI.<\/p>\n<p>Addis, in his second at-bat of the inning, banged out a double that scored two runs and when the dust had cleared after the inning, the Shoes led 9-3.<\/p>\n<p>EHS came back in the seventh to score two runs on singles by Traub and Wyatt Hayes and three errors.<\/p>\n<p>The Hearts (5-3) are back in action today at Mount Zion in Apollo Conference play.<\/p>\n<p>The Wooden Shoes finished with six hits and drew 11 walks in the contest.\u00a0 Addis went four innings giving up three runs on five hits, one walk and striking out seven. But Andrew Probst picked up the win, going three innings, allowing two runs on two hits, three walks and striking out four.<\/p>\n<p>The Wooden Shoes are now 9-1 on the season and will play today at Olney.<\/p>\n<p>Effingham fell in junior varsity action to Newton, 5-3. The Eagles outhit EHS 8-6.\u00a0 Newton was led by Eli Wolf and Cylas Dickerson with two singles each. Dickerson added two RBI.<\/p>\n<p>EHS was led by J. Warner and O. Schuette with a single and an RBI each and C. Callaway Smith came on to go 2.1 innings striking out six. Chase Guerrettaz then went two innings with two strikeouts and Trevan Sidwell finished out with three strikeouts.<\/p>\n<p>The four Cougar pitchers allowed only three walks and struck out 14.<\/p>\n<p>South Central edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead then tacked on single runs in the second, third and fifth.<\/p>\n<p>The Cougars had six hits led by Colton Smith with a single, double and an RBI and Montes with a single and two RBI. But Altamont came back with a seven-run fourth and went on for the victory.<\/p>\n<p>Newton outhit Altamont by an 8-3 count. Altamont&#8217;s lone hits were a home run and three RBI from Brayden Elam, a solo homer from Keegan Schultz and a single and an RBI from Will Reardon. Brayden Schnarre had an RBI as did Cooper McManaway.<\/p>\n<p>Newton was led by Quincy Fulton with a home run and two RBI, David Ferguson with three singles and three RBI, Kohlten Barthelme with a double and Reed Tharp two singles.<\/p>\n<p>Dyson Wagner threw the win on the mound.
