Effingham High School claimed two baseball victories during weekend competition.<\/p>\n

Carter Braddy struck out 11 batters in leading Effingham to an 8-5 win over Altamont Friday. Braddy gave up nine hits and three runs over six innings while walking three.<\/p>\n

The Hearts got on the board in the top of the first. Max Seachrist singled, scoring one run, Max Flack doubled, scoring three runs and Brayden Tucker singled, scoring a run.<\/p>\n

A steal of home by Andrew Wagoner extended the Hearts lead to 6-2 in the top of the second.<\/p>\n

EHS finished with 14 hits led by Jude Traub with a single, double and two RBI, Flack with a double and three RBI, Seachrist with two singles and an RBI, Colton Webb with three singles, Tucker with two singles and an RBI and Westin Hayes with a single and double.<\/p>\n

Altamont finished with 11 hits led by Dyson Wagner with two singles and an RBI, Will Reardon with two singles and Keegan Schultz, Cooper McManaway and Carson Milleville with a single and an RBI each. The Indians are back in action today, weather permitting, traveling to South Central with a 4:30 p.m. start.<\/p>\n

In Saturday competition, the Hearts edged Mount Vernon, 4-2.<\/p>\n

EHS again had a big hitting attack, finishing with 11. Wagoner led the way with three singles, a double and an RBI. Flack added two singles and Webb had a single and two RBI.<\/p>\n

Traub went the seven innings for the victory on the mound. He gave up two runs on three hits, three walks while striking out six.<\/p>\n

Effingham also claimed the junior varsity game, 16-6. I. Kinkelaar led EHS with two singles and two RBI while A. Leonard had a single and three RBI and W. Hayes and A. Feldhake had a single and two RBI each. W. Hecht added an RBI.<\/p>\n

Effingham won’t be back in action until Wednesday, hosting Shelbyville with a 4:30 p.m. start.<\/p>\n

Dieterich had a four-run fourth inning and went on for a 9-4 victory over Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City Friday.<\/p>\n

The two teams were tied at 1-1 after the first and Dieterich moved into a 2-1 lead in the second. But the Bobcats tallied two to lead 3-2 in the third. Then came Dieterich’s fourth inning run.<\/p>\n

The Maroons finished with 15 hits.<\/p>\n

Mason Lidy and Gavin Meinhart had four each. Lidy had two singles, two doubles and an RBI while Meinhart had four singles and two RBI. Andrew Hall chipped in with a single, double and led in RBI with five. Dom Ashley and Justin Boerngen added two singles each.<\/p>\n

Lucas Westendorf claimed the pitching win. He went five innings, allowed four runs on two hits, four walks and struck out nine. Hall came on to finish the final two innings, giving up one walk and striking out one.<\/p>\n

CHBC was led in hitting by Kyle Lamb with a single and an RBI, Wyatt Rueff with a single and AJ Radloff with an RBI.<\/p>\n

Teutopolis High School improved to 6-1 on the season with a 6-1 victory over Fairfield Friday.<\/p>\n

The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 2-0 opening inning lead, tacked on two in the second and two more in the fifth. The lone run for the Mules came in the fifth.<\/p>\n

Aidan Niemerg was the winning pitcher. He went six innings, allowing one run on seven hits, one walk and striking out two.<\/p>\n

The Shoes had eight hits led by Michael Niebrugge with two singles, a double and two RBI and Davin Worman with a double and an RBI. Carter Hoene added a single and an RBI, Gavin Addis an RBI and Aidan Niemerg two singles.<\/p>\n

Fairfield dropped to 4-2 on the season.<\/p>\n

Coach Justin Fleener’s crew is back in action today, weather permitting, at Mahomet-Seymour with a 5 p.m. start.<\/p>\n

Cumberland High School edged Paris, 7-6 in Friday action.<\/p>\n

The Pirates moved into a 1-0 opening inning lead. Paris tied in the top of the second but the Pirates moved into a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame. Once again the Tigers took the lead with two runs, 3-2. But, here came the Pirates again, scoring three runs in the bottom of the third to lead 5-3.<\/p>\n

Cumberland pushed into a 6-3 lead in the fifth. Paris tied in the sixth with three runs. And, one more time, Cumberland tallied a run to finish with the 7-6 victory.<\/p>\n

Paris outhit Cumberland 9-6. The Pirates were led by Maddox Miller with a solo home run, Wyatt Watkins with a double and an RBI, Kade McMechan with two singles and an RBI, Isaac Venatta with a single and two RBI and Grady Jones with an RBI.<\/p>\n

McMechan was the winning pitcher, coming in the last inning and a half with three strikeouts.<\/p>\n

Brownstown\/St. Elmo scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to edge Okaw Valley, 5-4 Friday.<\/p>\n

Okaw Valley held a 2-0 opening inning lead. BSE tallied one in the second. Okaw Valley came back with one in the third. BSE scored a second run in the fourth then took a 4-3 lead in the fifth. The Timberwolves came back to tie the score at 4-4 in the sixth.<\/p>\n

BSE finished with eight hits but committed four errors. Dodge Willms had a triple and an RBI for the Bombers. Lucas Powell added two singles and two RBI and Lane Stine had a single and an RBI.<\/p>\n

BSE improved to 3-2 on the season and is back in action Tuesday at Neoga.<\/p>\n

At Brownstown<\/strong><\/p>\n

Newton traveled to Charleston Friday and claimed a 6-2 victory then played host to Pana Saturday and fell 4-2.<\/p>\n

In Friday’s contest, the Eagles held a 1-0 opening inning lead then added on single runs in the third and seventh around three in the fifth for the win over Charleston.<\/p>\n

The Eagles had 10 hits in the contest led by Dominic Baltzell with three singles and an RBI, Kohlten Barthelme with a single, double and two RBI and Dexter Fulton with two singles and an RBI.<\/p>\n

Drake Wolf went 5.1 innings on the mound win. He gave up one run on five hits and five walks.<\/p>\n

In Saturday’s game, Newton held a 2-1 lead after three innings but the Panthers tallied two in the fifth and one in the sixth for the 4-2 victory.<\/p>\n

The Eagles had five hits led by David Ferguson with two singles. Baltzell and Gavin Meinhart finished with an RBI each.<\/p>\n
