MATTOON — Windsor\/Stewardson-Strasburg broke a 2-2 opening inning tie against Mattoon with a two-run third, then went on for a 9-2 victory Friday in high school softball competition.<\/p>\n

The Hatchets had a 14-hit attack. Samantha Hayes, Clarissa Johnson and Katelyn VonBehrens led the way with three hits each. Hayes had two singles, a home run and drove in four runs while Johnson had two singles, a double and two RBI. VonBehrens added two singles, a double and an RBI. Zaida Wascher finished with two singles.<\/p>\n

The Hatchets tallied two runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings around one run in the fifth.<\/p>\n

S. Hayes went the distance on the mound. She gave up two runs on two hits, three walks while striking out six.<\/p>\n

Paris came calling and tallied a 17-3 win over Cumberland in five innings via the 10-run rule Friday.<\/p>\n

The Tigers stepped out to a 6-0 opening inning lead and led 14-2 in the second. Paris tallied another run in the third as did Cumberland and then finished with two in the fifth.<\/p>\n

Cumberland ended with six hits. Ava Long, Mia Holsapple and Jenna Hougham had a double each. Hougham finished with two RBI.<\/p>\n

Jacie Young led Paris with three doubles and five RBI, Landrie Stevens had a triple and two RBI and Emma Kraemer had two singles and three RBI.<\/p>\n

Newton and Pana went through the first five innings without a score before the Eagles tallied three runs in the sixth and handed Pana a 3-0 loss Saturday,<\/p>\n

Coach Sara Beam’s crew finished with nine hits in the win. Addy O’Dell had a single and double while Lexie Ghast had a triple and two RBI. Allie Stanley contributed three singles.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Amelia Collins went seven innings on the mound. She allowed five hits, did not give up a run and struck out 10.<\/p>\n

The Eagles played errorless ball.<\/p>\n
