ALTAMONT — Altamont High School edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead and went on to finish with a 14-4 baseball victory in six innings over Arthur-Lovington\/Atwood-Hammond Thursday.<\/p>\n

ALAH moved into a 2-1 lead in the top of the second, but Altamont came back with four runs in the bottom of the frame to lead 5-2. ALAH pulled within 5-4 with single runs in the third and fourth. But here came Altamont, scoring a run in the fifth and finishing the game by the 10-run rule in the sixth with six runs.<\/p>\n

Altamont ended with 10 hits in the contest led by Keegan Schultz with two singles, two doubles and five RBI. Kade Milleville chipped in with two doubles and three RBI while Brayden Schnarre added two singles and two RBI. Will Reardon and Brayden Elam added a single and an RBI each.<\/p>\n

Dyson Wagner threw 3.2 innings for the win. He allowed four runs on six hits, two walks while striking out eight. Carson Milleville picked up the final 2.1 innings, allowing one hit and striking out five.<\/p>\n

At Edwardsville<\/strong><\/p>\n

Effingham headed to the Metro East Classic and took on Oswego but ended up with a 13-2 loss Thursday.<\/p>\n

Oswego edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead after a wild pitch scored the run. Oswego’s Kam Jenkins homered to right field, scoring two runs in the top of the third for a 3-0 lead.<\/p>\n

The Panthers added on two more runs in the fourth and led 8-0 after the fifth.<\/p>\n

EHS tallied its two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Oswego finished out with five in the seventh.<\/p>\n

Andrew Wagoner led the Hearts with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The outfielder went two-for-two on the day, both singles. Wyatt Hayes had a single and double.<\/p>\n

The Hearts collected six walks in the game but three EHS pitchers gave up eight walks and 10 hits.<\/p>\n

Effingham is back in action today, hosting Marion at 4:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

At Edwardsville<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mascoutah came calling and blanked Newton, 11-0 in five innings Thursday.<\/p>\n

Mascoutah edged out to a 1-0 lead in the second, then had a five-run third, a three-run fourth and ended the game in the fifth with two runs.<\/p>\n

Newton finished with two hits, both singles by Drake Wolf.<\/p>\n

Mascoutah had seven hits, all for extra bases. A. Musso hit two home runs and finished with five RBI while P. Henry had a solo home run. N. Lebert had a double and triple and J. Amann a double.<\/p>\n
