According to unofficial results from Tuesday’s General Election, voters in Teutopolis Community Unit School District #50 have approved a $15 million school building bond referendum to support renovations and improvements at Teutopolis Grade School.
\nThe approval follows several years of facility assessments, long-range planning, and community engagement through the District’s Clear View initiative. Throughout the process, residents were encouraged to learn about the condition of our facilities, review proposed improvements, consider the financial implications, and share their perspectives on the future of Teutopolis Grade School.
\n“We’re grateful to everyone who took the time to become informed, ask questions, participate in conversations, and ultimately make their voices heard,” said Superintendent Matt Sturgeon. “The engagement of our community has been an important part of this process, and we recognize both the significance of this investment and the responsibility that comes with it.”
\nThe voter-approved referendum authorizes the District to issue up to $15 million in school building bonds to address aging infrastructure, improve educational spaces, and extend the useful life of Teutopolis Grade School. These improvements are intended to provide a safe, functional, and supportive learning environment for current
\nand future generations of Wooden Shoes.
\nWith voter approval, the District will now transition from conceptual planning to more detailed project development. Working alongside architectural and financial professionals, the Board and administration will refine renovation plans, establish project timelines, and prepare for the competitive bidding and construction phases. Additional information regarding the anticipated schedule will be shared as planning progresses.
\n“I also want to recognize our Board of Education for its leadership and continued commitment to our students, staff, district, and community,” Sturgeon added. “Their thoughtful approach to long-range facility planning reflects both an appreciation for our community’s long-standing support of public education and a responsibility to be good stewards of taxpayer resources.”
\n“Now the work continues as we look to preserve, honor, and grow our Teutopolis traditions. My hope is that we continue doing so together as a Wooden Shoe community.”
\nThe District remains committed to transparency and community engagement throughout the next phases of the project. Updates, along with opportunities to provide feedback, will be shared through the District’s communication channels.
\nThe District extends its appreciation to all residents who participated in the election and to the many individuals who contributed to the planning and public engagement process.
