Kingery, 96, of Toledo, IL passed away at 4:15 am on October 11, 2026, at Cumberland Rehab and Health Care Center in Greenup, IL.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Friday October 16, 2026, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to service time at the funeral chapel on
Friday. The burial will be in the Greenup Cemetery.
Doris was born on January 2, 1930, in Toledo, IL to Joe and May (Hubbard) Titus. She married Donald Kingery on July 3, 1969. Survivors include her husband Don of 57 years; sister
Lola Clark; sister-in-law Connie Titus; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Dean (Virginia) Titus, Leroy Titus, Carol Titus, and Kenneth (Pat)
Titus; sister Olive (Rex) Brandenburg and brother-in-law Wayne Clark. Doris attended the Jones country school in rural Toledo before starting her working career at the Ettlebrick Shoe Factory in Greenup, where she was employed for 20 years. She then worked at Norge/Fedders Corp in Effingham, IL until her retirement in 1992. It was at Fedders, that she met her life partner, Donald Kingery with whom she spent 57 years of marriage. Don didn’t refer to Doris as honey or sweetheart; she was his Freddy. He very seldom referred to her by any other name. Together they built a home and a life on a hill near Jewett, before building their new residence “in town” in Toledo. In the last few years, they both have been residing at the Greenup Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, and when it was time, he followed her and said “goodbye Freddy” one more time as she was taken out the door.
Aunt Doris as many knew her was a fun, life loving, God-fearing woman, who never met a stranger. She loved every type of creature on this earth and any animal in her care lived a grand life. She loved cats and dogs, but she loved her “kids” the most. Even though she had no children of her own, you did not need to be blood related to feel the magnitude of her love. We older “kids” have wonderful memories of being with her up on the farm every Sunday for dinner after church. The younger kids will remember getting to play with a cat or a dog while you were at her house. She even had “life-like” cats and dogs to play with once the live animals were no longer around and, before you had to leave, she always had candy and cookies for you to take
home. Not much was off limits when it came to Aunt Doris and kids. Doris was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Toledo, where she sang in the choir and again was always working and loving on the kids in the church.
Memorials can be made to the Activity Fund at Cumberland Rehab in Greenup, IL.
Online condolences can be expressed at www.barkleyfuneralchapels.com

Doris E.
