{"id":48148,"date":"2026-10-02T06:06:55","date_gmt":"2026-10-02T11:06:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/?p=48148"},"modified":"2026-10-02T06:08:18","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T11:08:18","slug":"st-anthony-hands-teutopolis-3-1-loss-in-h-s-baseball","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/sports\/baseball\/48148-st-anthony-hands-teutopolis-3-1-loss-in-h-s-baseball\/","title":{"rendered":"St. Anthony Hands Teutopolis 3-1 Loss In High School Baseball"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"pdfprnt-buttons pdfprnt-buttons-post pdfprnt-top-right\"><a href=\"javascript: window.print()\" class=\"pdfprnt-button pdfprnt-button-print\" target=\"_self\" ><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/wp-content\/plugins\/pdf-print\/images\/print.png\" alt=\"image_print\" title=\"Print Content\" \/><span class=\"pdfprnt-button-title pdfprnt-button-print-title\">Print<\/span><\/a><\/div><p>TEUTOPOLIS &#8212; Teutopolis High School struck in the opening inning, scoring a run for a 1-0 lead on Effingham St. Anthony in baseball action Thursday in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3.<\/p>\n<p>That lead lasted until the fifth inning when the Bulldogs moved ahead 2-1 and then finished out with a single run in the sixth for the 3-1 victory.<\/p>\n<p>The Wooden Shoes&#8217; run came from a leadoff triple by Aiden Niemerg who then scored on a ground out by Bennett Schumacher.<\/p>\n<p>St. Anthony had rumbled in the top of the first as Curtis Tingley was hit by a pitch and Jonny Gannaway doubled. But the two runners were left stranded.<\/p>\n<p>T-town&#8217;s Andy Lustig doubled in the second but was left on base.<\/p>\n<p>T-town&#8217;s Schumacher singled in the third and Eric Weidner was hit by a pitch but the two runners did not cross the plate.<\/p>\n<p>In the fourth, St. Anthony&#8217;s Chase Dorris doubled and took third on a balk but the third out was rung up before Dorris could dent home plate.<\/p>\n<p>The Shoes&#8217; Teagan Pals singled with one out in the fourth but again was left stranded.<\/p>\n<p>In the fifth, the Bulldogs finally started to make noise. With one out, Will Vonderheide reached base on an error. Alex Mayer then followed with a home run and the Bulldogs had moved into a 2-1 lead.<\/p>\n<p>St. Anthony then struck again in the sixth. With one out, Freddie Jansen was hit by a pitch. Chase Dorris followed with a single. With two outs, Conner Storm singled Jansen home and that&#8217;s where the scoring ended.<\/p>\n<p>T-town came back in the bottom of the seventh as Andy Lustig led off with a single and Bryce Niebrugge drew a walk. But Lustig was thrown out attempting to take third. A strikeout brought up the second out. Weidner was hit by a pitch but the Shoes were taken out of the game on another strikeout.<\/p>\n<p>Mason Karolewicz picked up the mound win for the Bulldogs. He went 1.2 innings with two strikeouts.
