He married Joyce Drum on October 4, 2005.

Survivors include his loving wife, Joyce; daughter Lea (Matt) Creadore; son Jake Lashmet; grandchildren Colin, Crew, and Cash Creadore, and Brooklynn; sister Kelly Jo (Roy) Stepp; sister-in-law Kim (Steve) Cummins; nieces Susanne (Kyle) Schackmann, Samantha (Dustin) Herdes, and Sydnie Shook (Jon), several great nieces and nephews, and chosen son Heath Jamerson.

He was preceded in death by his parents Larry Cummins and Norma (Jesse) Powell, son Whitney Scherrinsky and brother Mark Cummins.

He was known to many simply as “Moon,” a nickname that suited a man whose personality was impossible to forget. Quick-witted, funny, and often the life of the party, Moon had a mischievous streak that created stories his family and friends will tell for years. He once let goats loose to graze in his hometown square and famously “mooned” the preacher’s daughter—an escapade that helped earn him the nickname that followed him throughout his life. Moon was a hardworking man who spent his life providing for those he loved. Over the years, he worked as a union laborer, boilermaker, Teamster, owner-operator, and eventually on the pipeline. He loved the outdoors and was happiest cutting wood, taking side-by-side rides with his dogs. Also, an avid rock and artifact hunter, he was always looking for the next hidden treasure. Behind the jokes and larger-than-life personality was a man with an enormous heart. Moon was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who would do just about anything for the people he cared about. At the center of his life was his beloved wife, Joyce. She was his everything. Moon believed they had been brought into each other’s lives to save one another, and the love they shared was deep and truly special. Moon leaves behind countless stories, plenty of laughter, and a lifetime of love. Those fortunate enough to have known him will remember his quick wit, his big heart, and the way he loved his family. And somewhere, you have to believe Moon is still finding a little mischief to get into.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Cumberland County Animal Control: P.O Box 70 Toledo, IL 62468.

Online condolences can be expressed at www.barkleyfuneralchapels.com

Jimmie “Moon” Cummins, 66, of Toledo, IL passed away at 7:15 am on Monday September 28, 2026, at his residence.
