It didn\u2019t take long Friday night for Mahomet-Seymour to show the Effingham High School crowd exactly why the Bulldogs are the top-ranked football team in Class 5A.<\/p>\n

Mahomet scored the first of its four first-quarter touchdowns less than three minutes into the proceedings at Klosterman Field and routed the Flaming Hearts 47-0 in Effingham\u2019s homecoming game at Washington Savings Bank Stadium.<\/p>\n

Effingham (1-5, 1-2 Apollo Conference) netted just 71 total yards against Mahomet\u2019s stout defense and trailed 41-0 by halftime as the Bulldogs (6-0, 3-0 Apollo) enjoyed a running clock in the second half and an opportunity to give its second-stringers some varsity time.<\/p>\n

Lexton Roberts ran for 51 yards on nine carries to account for most of the Hearts\u2019 offensive output. Carter Kalber snagged the only EHS pass reception of the evening, an eight-yarder.<\/p>\n

During halftime, homecoming royalty was announced. Rece Kinney and Maci Hayes are your 2026 EHS homecoming king and queen.<\/p>\n

Effingham\u2019s final road game of the regular season is up next as the Hearts travel to Mt. Zion for more Apollo Conference play. As always, kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with a 6:45 pregame show on your home for Hearts football, 979 XFM.<\/p>\n
