Eaton and Edith Lois Englund.<\/p>\n<p>Memorial graveside services will be at 4:00 pm on Friday September 18, 2026, at the Toledo Cemetery. The Barkley Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.<\/p>\n<p>From an early age, Charles developed a love for the outdoors and cherished the time he spent fishing with his father on the Kaskaskia River. Those early experiences became part of the foundation of the man he would grow to be\u2014hardworking, independent, and deeply connected to the people and places he loved. Charles began working at a young age. One of his first jobs was working on the<br \/>\nanhydrous pipeline near Trilla, Illinois. At 18, he moved to Toledo, Illinois, where he began what would become a lifelong career in the automotive business. In 1968, Charles started working as a mechanic at Kirk Ford, located on the courthouse square in Toledo. He remained there from 1968 until 1972, when the business changed hands to Lendon Darling and became K&amp;L Ford. Charles continued working there, building his knowledge, reputation, and relationships within the community. In 1999, Charles purchased the business from Mr. Darling, and it became Eaton Automotive. For Charles, working on cars was more than simply a career\u2014it was something he genuinely loved and took great pride in. Outside of work, Charles had a passion for fast cars, especially during his younger years. Among the cars he owned and enjoyed were a 1957 Chevy, a 1964 Chevy Nova, and a 500 Galaxy. His love of automobiles was a reflection of his personality: he appreciated things with character, power, and a little bit of excitement. On April 15, 1997, Charles married the love of his life, Marjorie Ann McDowell, in Henderson, Kentucky. Their marriage was a beautiful example of true love and devotion. They were rarely heard to disagree and shared a bond that was evident to everyone around them. Together, they built a life filled with love, companionship, and the simple joy of having each other. Charles became a loving stepfather to Carl and Gayla, and his family continued to grow to include seven grandchildren: Trey, Dain, Heather, Austin, Dillion McDowell, Kayla, and Derek Robinson. And 14 great grandchildren. His grandchildren were everything to him. He took great pride in them and cherished the time he was able to spend with each of them. The love he had for his grandchildren was one of the greatest joys of his life. Charles also had a few simple things that made him uniquely himself. One of those was his love of coffee. He would drink coffee even on the hottest days of summer, as if the temperature outside made no difference whatsoever. It was one of those little things that his family will always remember and smile about\u2014the kind of everyday memory that becomes even more precious with time.<\/p>\n<p>Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin H. Eaton and Edith Lois Englund; sisters, Penny, and Candice Roberts; his wife, Marjorie Ann McDowell; his stepdaughter, Gayla; and his grandson, Austin.<\/p>\n<p>Charles will be remembered for his hard work, his love of cars, his independent spirit, his devotion to Marjorie, and his unconditional love for his family. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be treasured by his stepchildren, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His grandchildren will carry with them the memories of their grandfather, the stories they shared, and the love he gave them so freely.
