{"id":45704,"date":"2026-09-01T16:29:14","date_gmt":"2026-09-01T21:29:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/?p=45704"},"modified":"2026-09-01T16:29:14","modified_gmt":"2026-09-01T21:29:14","slug":"isp-releases-body-camera-footage-of-july-shooting-incident-in-effingham","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/local-news\/45704-isp-releases-body-camera-footage-of-july-shooting-incident-in-effingham\/","title":{"rendered":"ISP Releases Body Camera Footage of July Shooting Incident in Effingham"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"pdfprnt-buttons pdfprnt-buttons-post pdfprnt-top-right\"><a href=\"javascript: window.print()\" class=\"pdfprnt-button pdfprnt-button-print\" target=\"_self\" ><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/wp-content\/plugins\/pdf-print\/images\/print.png\" alt=\"image_print\" title=\"Print Content\" \/><span class=\"pdfprnt-button-title pdfprnt-button-print-title\">Print<\/span><\/a><\/div><p>The Illinois State Police (ISP) has released video of a shooting incident that occurred in July in Effingham. \u200b The Effingham Police Department and the Effingham County Sheriff\u2019s Office requested the Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 8 to investigate a shooting incident at St. John\u2019s Lutheran Church on Jefferson Avenue in Effingham.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>On July 5, at approximately 9:27 a.m., St. John\u2019s Lutheran Church security contacted the Effingham Police Department to report a suspicious vehicle and suspicious man inside the church wishing to speak with the pastor. \u200b The Effingham Police Department and the Effingham County Sheriff\u2019s Office responded to the church locating the man, 36-year-old Allen O. Gattino of St. Charles, MO. \u200b The suspicious vehicle was reported stolen out of Marion County, IL. \u200b Officers from both agencies attempted to restrain Gattino. \u200b During the struggle, Gattino produced a firearm, which discharged, and Gattino was struck. \u200b Gattino was taken to a local hospital and later transported by helicopter to a regional hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was pronounced deceased. \u200b No one else was injured in this incident. \u200b<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>ISP said they released the video in a &#8220;commitment to integrity and public transparency&#8221;.
