IAN MARTIN)<\/p>\n<p>Ian B.K. Martin, M.D., M.B.A., FACEP, FAAEM, officially takes the helm as provost and dean of Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Medicine and CEO of SIU Medicine on Sept. 1, launching a listening tour across central and southern Illinois to engage faculty, staff, trainees, students, clinical partners and community leaders.<\/p>\n<p>His arrival marks the start of a new chapter in the institution\u2019s commitment to improving the health of communities throughout the region. Among Martin\u2019s early priorities are advancing rural, suburban and urban health, strengthening the healthcare workforce, expanding research and innovation and fostering collaboration across the institution and its community partners.<\/p>\n<p>As part of his listening tour, Martin will meet with community leaders in Springfield, Carbondale, Decatur and other communities throughout the SIU Medicine service area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSIU School of Medicine has an extraordinary history of innovation, service and partnership,\u201d Martin said. \u201cMy first priority is to listen because the people making a difference every day have firsthand knowledge of what our communities need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin said he is eager to build on the school\u2019s strengths while identifying new opportunities to advance education, research, patient care and community engagement.<\/p>\n<p>Martin was selected following a national search and brings extensive experience in academic and clinical leadership and health system strategy. Most recently, he served as eminent scholar, professor with tenure and system chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he also served as associate provost and senior associate dean for Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development.<\/p>\n<p>As provost and dean of SIU School of Medicine and CEO of SIU Medicine, Martin will lead the institution\u2019s efforts to advance medical education, research, clinical care and community partnerships while supporting the school\u2019s mission of improving health throughout central and southern Illinois.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(DR.
