{"id":45416,"date":"2026-08-29T15:40:54","date_gmt":"2026-08-29T20:40:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/?p=45416"},"modified":"2026-08-29T16:13:06","modified_gmt":"2026-08-29T21:13:06","slug":"update-on-semi-truck-fire-and-interstate-closure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/local-news\/45416-update-on-semi-truck-fire-and-interstate-closure\/","title":{"rendered":"UPDATE on Semi-Truck Fire and Interstate Closure"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"pdfprnt-buttons pdfprnt-buttons-post pdfprnt-top-right\"><a href=\"javascript: window.print()\" class=\"pdfprnt-button pdfprnt-button-print\" target=\"_self\" ><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/wp-content\/plugins\/pdf-print\/images\/print.png\" alt=\"image_print\" title=\"Print Content\" \/><span class=\"pdfprnt-button-title pdfprnt-button-print-title\">Print<\/span><\/a><\/div><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Effingham Fire Department released the following mid-afternoon update on the earlier semi-truck crash, fire, and intestate closure:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On Saturday, August 29, 2026, at approximately 10:32 a.m., the Effingham Fire Department was dispatched to westbound Interstate 70, just east of Mile Marker 90, for a reported crash involving two semi-trucks, with one of the vehicles on fire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Upon arrival, firefighters found two semi-trucks involved in the crash, with one tractor-trailer heavily involved in fire. Debris and cargo from the crash covered both westbound lanes of Interstate 70. Firefighters deployed a hose line and used water and firefighting foam to control and extinguish the fire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The crash and fire also resulted in the release of diesel fuel and other vehicle fluids onto the roadway. No hazardous cargo was reported. Due to the fire, extensive debris, and fluid spills, both westbound lanes were closed, and the Illinois Department of Transportation shut down westbound I-70 at the I-57\/I-70 split while emergency crews worked at the scene.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">RuralMed EMS evaluated both drivers involved in the crash. One driver was transported to HSHS St. Anthony\u2019s Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. The second driver was evaluated at the scene and declined transport. No firefighter injuries were reported.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Firefighters remained on scene following extinguishment while debris was cleared and cleanup operations began.
