{"id":39836,"date":"2026-06-04T11:01:22","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T16:01:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/?p=39836"},"modified":"2026-06-06T10:54:13","modified_gmt":"2026-06-06T15:54:13","slug":"harold-wilson-worthey-93-of-newton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/obits\/39836-harold-wilson-worthey-93-of-newton\/","title":{"rendered":"Harold Wilson Worthey (93) of Newton"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"pdfprnt-buttons pdfprnt-buttons-post pdfprnt-top-right\"><a href=\"javascript: window.print()\" class=\"pdfprnt-button pdfprnt-button-print\" target=\"_self\" ><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thexradio.com\/news\/wp-content\/plugins\/pdf-print\/images\/print.png\" alt=\"image_print\" title=\"Print Content\" \/><span class=\"pdfprnt-button-title pdfprnt-button-print-title\">Print<\/span><\/a><\/div><p>Harold Wilson Worthey, age 93, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 7:27 PM on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at HSHS Saint Anthony\u2019s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.<\/p>\n<p>Private family services were held with burial in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois.\u00a0 In loving memory of Harold, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 400 West Washington Street Newton, Illinois 62448.\u00a0 Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.\u00a0 The obituary can be viewed and condolences left at www.meyerfh.com.<\/p>\n<p>Harold was born on May 24, 1933, in Willow Hill, Illinois, the son of Roy and Cleda (Wilson) Worthey.\u00a0 He married Shirley Cummins on March 21, 1952, and she preceded him in death on October 26, 2020.\u00a0 Harold served in the United States Army from 1953, until 1955, during the Korean War.\u00a0 Harold worked in the maintenance department of United Technologies in Newton for several years.\u00a0 Harold was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton.\u00a0 He enjoyed fishing, tinkering and was an avid mushroom hunter.<\/p>\n<p>Harold is survived by:<\/p>\n<p>Son \u2013 Ed Worthey (Cindy Utley) of Newton, Illinois<\/p>\n<p>Grandchildren \u2013 Sarah (Brad) Horner of Newton, Illinois; Amy (Travis) Tarr of Newton, Illinois and Dana (Gary) Adams of Iola, Illinois<\/p>\n<p>Great Grandchildren \u2013 Marshall (Taryn) Tarr, Meyer Tarr (fianc\u00e9 Laney Hemrich), Marlee Tarr, Cole Horner, Maddox Horner, Maverik Horner, Jayde Adams, Reece Adams, and Maya Adams<\/p>\n<p>Great-great Grandchildren \u2013 Oaklee and Hendrick<\/p>\n<p>Daughter-in-law \u2013 Cindy Utley of Mattoon, Illinois<\/p>\n<p>Harold was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Steve Worthey, sisters Ruby Sroka and Margaret Worthey.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Harold Wilson Worthey, age 93, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 7:27 PM on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at HSHS Saint Anthony\u2019s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
