Effingham High School’s Carter Braddy was tough on the mound while the Hearts’ offense made seven hits count to edge Newton 4-3 and win the Class 2A Effingham Baseball Regional Saturday.<\/p>\n

Max Flack got the Hearts off in the right direction with a solo homer in the first inning.<\/p>\n

EHS then tacked on three more runs to lead 4-0 in the third. Braddy helped his own cause, hitting a three-run homer in the third.<\/p>\n

Newton fought back with three runs in the bottom of the third, scoring on a fly out, a hit-by-pitch and a walk.<\/p>\n

Braddy allowed only one hit in five innings. He gave up one run and struck out 10. The only blimp on the horizon was giving up eight walks.<\/p>\n

Flack gave up one run and one walk while Wyatt Hayes tossed an inning giving up one run, walking three and striking out one. Westin Hayes finished out going 1.1 innings. He did not give up a hit, walked one and struck out three.<\/p>\n

The Hearts played long ball as Braddy and Flack hit home runs. Braddy also had a single and finished with three RBI. Flack had a single and one RBI. We. Hayes added a double.<\/p>\n

The Eagles’ lone hit was a single by Reed Tharp. Quincy Fulton, Dominic Baltzell and Maddox Horner had an RBI each.<\/p>\n

The Hearts advance to the Greenville Sectional Wednesday to face Freeburg at 4:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

At Vandalia<\/strong><\/p>\n

Effingham St. Anthony and Teutopolis went through the first two innings scoreless in the Class 2A Vandalia Regional championship game Saturday.<\/p>\n

Then the Bulldogs put things in high gear, scoring four runs in the third and tacking on a final run in the fourth to blank the Wooden Shoes by a 5-0 count.<\/p>\n

The Wooden Shoes rumbled in the first, putting Davin Worman on base with a single and Jason Kreke by drawing a walk. But the Bulldogs got out of the frame unscathed.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony then had a four-run third inning. Rogan Allen led off going to first after he was hit by a pitch. Xander Beals hit a sacrifice but reached base on an error.<\/p>\n

Henry Brent followed with a single scoring a run. A sacrifice fly by Alex Mayer scored a second run. Aiden Lauritzen followed with a single. A double by Charley Spour scored a run and a sacrifice fly by Blake Verdeyen scored another run and the Bulldogs led 4-0.<\/p>\n

The final run of the contest came in the fourth. Freddie Jansen led off with a double and took third on a passed ball. Allen was hit by a pitch. A sacrifice fly by Brent scored the run and that’s where the scoring ended.<\/p>\n

Both teams finished with five hits and an error.<\/p>\n

Lauritzen picked up the victory on the mound. He went all seven innings, allowing five hits, walking two and striking out three.<\/p>\n

Aidan Niemerg led the Shoes with a double and Bryce Niebrugge finished with two singles.<\/p>\n

Spour had a single, double and an RBI for the Bulldogs while Freddie Jansen had a double. Brent had a single and two RBI and Alex Mayer and Blake Verdeyen an RBI each.<\/p>\n

T-town ends the season with a 26-9 record.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony advances to the Greenville Sectional to face Breese Central Wednesday at 2 p.m. with a 20-9 mark.<\/p>\n
