HILLSBORO — Effingham took off to an 8-1 opening inning lead and handed Hillsboro a 13-1 high school softball loss in five innings Monday.<\/p>\n

The Hearts finished with nine hits led by Natalie Armstrong with a single, home run and two RBI and Keagyn Koenig with a single, double and three RBI. Cora Hartman had two singles while Ryley Engel had a single and two RBI. Gieah Schlanser finished with a single and an RBI while Sydney Cunningham, Layla McBride and Molly Maxedon had a single and an RBI each.<\/p>\n

Armstrong not only led offensively but picked up the pitching victory. She went all five innings, giving up one run on seven hits. She did not walk a batter and had one strikeout.<\/p>\n

At Hillsboro<\/strong><\/p>\n

Windsor\/Stewardson-Strasburg took a 1-0 first inning lead and went on for an 8-2 victory over Neoga Monday.<\/p>\n

The Hatchets finished with 10 hits while three pitchers controlled Neoga’s hitting, giving up three. Kendra Hayes went four innings for the victory. She gave up one run on one hit, four walks while striking out eight. Kalia Friese came on to toss two innings with one strikeout and two walks and Mya Friese finished out giving up one run on two hits and one strikeout.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Mya Friese hit three singles and had an RBI while Makenna Corrie finished with two singles and two RBI, Arora Rincker with a double and an RBI, Cameron Carey with two singles and Hayes with three RBI.<\/p>\n

Neoga had three hits led by Hannah Probst and Chloe Frankie with a double each. Probst added an RBI. Madelyan had a single and an RBI.<\/p>\n

Effingham St. Anthony moved into a 2-0 opening inning lead then tallied four in the fourth and three in the fifth for a 9-5 victory over Salem Monday.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs went on a tear from the plate with 14 hits. Lilly Gannaway finished with two doubles and an RBI while Sadie Vineyard had three singles and two RBI. Julia Schultz and Nancy Ruholl added two singles and two RBI each. Jackie Vonderheide had a double and an RBI and Claire Kinkelaar two singles.<\/p>\n

Ruholl went four innings for the pitching win. She gave up one run on five hits, one walk and struck out one. Chloe Kelley came on to finish the final three innings.<\/p>\n

At St. Anthony<\/strong><\/p>\n

Newton held off Richland County, Olney for a 10-9 victory Monday.<\/p>\n

The Eagles held a 6-4 lead after two innings and an 8-6 lead after four. Newton then pushed its lead to 10-6 in the fifth. Richland County came back with a single run in the sixth and seventh only to fall short.<\/p>\n

Newton was outhit by a 14-8 tally but made every hit count. Jacee Dhom had a home run and four RBI while Allie Hermann had a single, home run and two RBI. Jorjia Reich chipped in with two singles and two RBI and Paige Wagner a single and an RBI.<\/p>\n

Karly Deckard was the winner on the mound. She went 2.1 innings, giving up five runs on six hits and four walks.<\/p>\n

At Newton<\/strong><\/p>\n

Altamont scored all six of its runs in the third inning and claimed a 6-2 victory over St. Elmo\/Brownstown as two National Trail Conference teams squared off Monday.<\/p>\n

Sophia Long tossed a two-hitter with two walks and eight strikeouts for the pitching win.<\/p>\n

Long also aided her own cause with two singles and an RBI. Adilyn Schnarre and Cecilia Pearcy had a single and an RBI each.<\/p>\n

St. Elmo\/Brownstown was led by Brooklyn Landrus with a double and Kadence Speagle with a single. Alivia Claycomb had an RBI.<\/p>\n

The Wooden Shoes ran out to a 10-0 opening inning lead then tacked on seven more in the second.<\/p>\n

Alyssa Tipton picked up the one-hit pitching victory. She allowed one walk and struck out four. Jersey Gaddis finished the second two innings and did not allow a hit while striking out four.<\/p>\n

T-town had 17 hits led by Gaddis with two singles, a double and three RBI, Lauren Shue with a double and two RBI, A. Calkins had two singles and two RBI, Kera Hartke and Kylie Borries two singles and Olivia Wermert and Mallory Bloemer with a single and two RBI each. Alyssa Tipton and Brooklyn Will added a single and an RBI each and Brook Tipton an RBI.<\/p>\n

Cowden-Herrick\/Beecher City had one hit, a double by Ryleigh Sarver.<\/p>\n

Cumberland finished with 19 led by Lauren Schnepper with two singles, two doubles and five RBI, Jude Miller with two singles, a double and an RBI, Kinley McMechan with a single, double and an RBI, Mia Holsapple with three singles and four RBI, Ava Long and Baya Carter with two singles and an RBI each, Jade Carr and Kada Miles with a single and an RBI each and Shelby Kingery with an RBI.<\/p>\n

Avery Millsap came on in relief in the third inning for the pitching win. She went three innings, giving up eight runs on six hits, four walks and striking out two.<\/p>\n
