MOUNT ZION — Effingham St. Anthony struck early and ended up blanking Mount Zion, 4-0 in high school baseball Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs got on the board with a run in the first then tacked on the other three runs in the second.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony had five hits, all singles. Ben McDonald, Quentin Stephens, Rogan Allen, Alex Mayer and Henry Brent had a single each. Stephens and Blake Verdeyen each added an RBI.<\/p>\n

Aiden Lauritzen went 6.1 innings on the mound for the victory. He struck out 11. He gave up no runs on four hits and walked three. Hayden Bushur came on to get the final two outs.<\/p>\n

At Mount Zion<\/strong><\/p>\n

Casey-Westfield edged out to a 1-0 lead but Cumberland came back with two runs in the bottom of the second. The Warriors moved ahead again with two runs in the top of the third, but once again here came the Pirates with three runs.<\/p>\n

From that point on, Cumberland didn’t look back in a 7-4 victory.<\/p>\n

Despite being outhit 7-6 and having four errors, Cumberland pulled the game together for the win. Lance Lock finished with a single, a home run and three RBI. Maddox Miller added a single, double and an RBI. Hudson McElravy put up two RBI and had a single.<\/p>\n

Grady Jones went the entire seven innings on the mound. He gave up four runs, two earned, walked three and struck out three.<\/p>\n

Neoga moved into a 4-0 lead in the second inning, then tacked on two runs in the third and fifth and three more in the seventh.<\/p>\n

The Indians had a 10-hit attack. Brett Matusas had a double and drove in two runs while Evan Fearday had two singles and an RBI, Jack Finney two RBI and Callen Lanham a single and two RBI.<\/p>\n

Malik Coy tossed a five hitter for the win on the mound.<\/p>\n

CHBC was led by Kale Hardimon with a double, Ben Askins with a single and two RBI and Clive Schlanser with two singles.<\/p>\n

At Cowden<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jayce Gillespie, Logan Lach and Zayden Gillespie had the three hits, all singles, for BSE.<\/p>\n

In a freshman\/sophomore contest, Teutopolis pounded Highland, 16-6 in six innings Thursday.<\/p>\n

Highland held a 6-3 lead in the third inning. But the Wooden Shoes came roaring back with a six-run fourth, a fourth-run fifth and finished the game in the sixth by the 10-run rule with three runs.<\/p>\n

T-town banged out 19 hits. Eric Weidner led the way with two singles, a double, triple and two RBI while Bennett Schumacher added two doubles and a triple. Alex Grunloh had two singles, a double and five RBI, Will Bushur three singles and two RBI, Derek Drees two singles and three RBI and Ozzie Pals two singles and two RBI. Luke Niebrugge chipped in with a single and an RBI.<\/p>\n
