Effingham High School downed Charleston 12-6 in an Apollo Conference baseball contest Wednesday. With that victory, Effingham’s Curran McNeely earned his 100th career coaching win.<\/p>\n

Charleston got on the board first when Landon Shafer lined out, scoring a run.<\/p>\n

Effingham then tied the score in the top of the fourth when Westin Hayes grounded into a fielder’s choice and a run scored.<\/p>\n

The Trojans came back, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth to move ahead 5-1 and pushed that to 6-1 with a run in the sixth.<\/p>\n

The Hearts had one inning to make a comeback and that they did in the seventh.<\/p>\n

They scored 11 runs on nine hits. The biggest blow was a single by Brayden Tucker that drove in two runs.<\/p>\n

Barron Coffman ended up with the victory on the mound. He did not allow a run and gave up two hits over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking one.<\/p>\n

Effingham finished with 13 hits in the contest. Tucker led the way with three singles, a double and three RBI. Max Flack had two doubles and two RBI while Braddy finished with a single, double and an RBI. Westin Hayes had a single and two RBI. Jude Traub, Brody Boehm and Wyatt Hayes had a single and an RBI each.<\/p>\n

The Hearts swept the Apollo Conference doubleheader over Charleston with a 4-2 victory on Thursday<\/p>\n

Effingham returns to action today playing host to Dieterich in a 4:30 p.m. contest that can be heard on KJ Country 102.3.<\/p>\n

Effingham St. Anthony pounded South Central as two National Trail Conference teams met Wednesday, 11-1.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs moved into a 3-0 opening inning lead then tacked on single runs in the second, third and fifth around five in the fourth.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony finished with six hits led by Quentin Stephens with two singles and two RBI and Will Bierman with two singles and an RBI. Aiden Lauritzen added a single and an RBI. Curtis Tingley added two RBI.<\/p>\n

Chase Dorris went the five innings, giving up one run on two hits, four walks and striking out six for the pitching win.<\/p>\n

South Central had two hits, a single and an RBI by Luke Shumate and a single by Garret Shumate.<\/p>\n

St. Anthony trounced Oblong\/Hutsonville\/Palestine in a junior varsity contest, 21-0 in four innings.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs finished with eight hits and was aided by six errors.<\/p>\n

Mason Karolewicz had a double and two RBI while James Trupiano had a double and an RBI. Jonny Gannaway added a double. Charlie Hoene finished with no hits but had four RBI. Mikey Fearday added two singles and three RBI while Owen Wrigley had two singles and an RBI. Nick Roewe added an RBI.<\/p>\n

Connor Storm was the winning pitcher, He went two innings, did not give up a run, hit or a walk and struck out four.<\/p>\n
